Other Useful Material for PMP Training
Solution Question:
Some of the questions asked in the tests are not related to the text in PMBOK or the condensed notes. What extra material is required to study and attempt these questions?

PMP Expert Answer:
It's good that you realize that the e-sim questions are not all based solely on the PMBOK material. This is because the real PMP exam will have questions that do not map back to the PMBOK. Based on lessons learned, we estimate approximately 60-70% of the questions can be referenced back to the PMBOK specifically or just in general. Note PMI will not agree or disagree with this estimate, but this is based on many PMP'S™ continuous feedback. So what other material will help you study the other 30-40%. Unfortunately, there is not any "one" specific reference I can supply you with. A question on the exam can come from a project management book, editorial or magazine any where in the world as long as it can be referenced to a knowledge area, framework and/or the PMP professional responsibility. This is why most of the questions in the e-Sim, especially questions that do not reference back to the PMBOK provide enhanced explanations for your understanding.

That said, in my personal opinion, one of the top 10 PM books that has lots of great PM material, facts and maps back to the PMBOK very nicely is Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling, Harold Kerzner, ninth edition. This recent edition includes direct references to the PMBOK as well as PMP exam tips. This book is packed full of excellent information that will not only help you on the exam but it will be an excellent reference book for your future projects. I use mine regularly and have read some sections numerous times. Note the book is just under 1,000 pages.
